Veer Savarkar International Airport - Port Blair
During Cyclone Vardha, entire Port Blair Airport was inundated for days together. Once the water receded, Indian Navy had planned resurfacing of complete runway at at Port Blair Airport in 2016 at an estimated cost of Rs 375 Cr. The work was sanctioned, however, could not be executed due to delays in tender process. The flexible runway surface had degraded excessively with major rutting issues at touch down areas, oxidation and chipping of the top layers.

Due to urgency, LN Petrochem was called upon to address the crisis and rejuvenate the runway in minimal time frame with the challenge of keeping the runway operational. Post survey, LNP provided the rejuvenation and restoration plan. The company ensured that runway life will be enhanced by 5 years and immediate resurfacing will not be required.
Resources were mobilized by ship and 1,30,000 sq mt of runway was rejuvenated along with 30,000 sq mt of restoration work in a period of 3 weeks. Entire project was completed without any runway closure. Work was carried out at night to ensure 0 downtime of flying operations.
The runway was declared fit for unhindered flight operations and resurfacing was not required. The runway was subsequently resurfaced in 2022 ie after 06 years of sustenance.
