RunwayShield UV - UV Reflector Coating

UV Reflector Coating is a high-performance surface treatment designed to reflect solar infrared and ultraviolet energy from pavement surfaces. It reduces surface temperatures, mitigates thermal stresses, and improves daytime visibility of markings where required.

Mechanism and advantages - The coating combines reflective pigments and UV-stable binders. Reflectance reduces heat build-up in the surface course, lowering thermal strain cycles that contribute to oxidative aging and micro-cracking. Lower surface temperatures also reduce softening of binder in extreme heat, improving rutting resistance for flexible pavements.

Operational benefits - Enhanced pavement longevity, improved comfort and safety for ground personnel, and reduced thermal expansion stresses on rigid pavements. Coating can be formulated to maintain acceptable skid resistance and to be compatible with runway and taxiway paint systems.

Application and specifications - Applied by spray or roller at a specified coverage rate. Surface preparation is critical, including degreasing and removal of contaminants. Coating is UV-stable and designed for long term outdoor exposure. Reflectance and skid characteristics are measured post cure to ensure compliance with operational criteria.

Environmental and compatibility notes - Low VOC options are available. Coating is designed to be compatible with our other pavement treatments and to be removable or recoat-able without damaging underlying pavement.
